Mind is my ultimate question to answer;
Music is my language to talk through;
Machinery is a tool and an analogy of mind;
and Media Art is a goal to integrate all the above in.

[EDUCATION]

My academic backgrounds involve Sociology (BA), Psychology (BA), Cognitive Sciences (MS), and Engineering Psychology (MS).
I received my PhD in Engineering Psychology and
Human-Computer Interaction at Georgia Tech Sonification Lab (Interactive Computing & Psychology Lab).
Also, I graduated from Yonsei Film Scoring Expert Institution.

[RESEARCH INTERESTS]

Auditory Displays, Affective Computing, Assistive Technology, & Automotive UI

 

My Publication List counts over 70 in a range of domains
such as Auditory/Voice User Interface Design, Usability in Wearable/Mobile/UbiComp,
Emotional Design, In-Vehicle Interface Design, Creativity, and Music Psychology.
Currently, at my Mind, Music & Machine Lab, I've been working on

Interactive Sonification Project at Immersive Visualization Studio, Emotional Auditory Cue Design Project,
and
Emotion Detection and Regulation Projects for various drivers.

[EXPERIENCE]

Since 2012 Fall, I have worked as an Assistant Professor in the department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences at Michigan Tech.
I am faculty member of Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors Graduate Program.

Before GT, I worked at LG Electronics Corporate Design Center in Korea.
As a UX designer and sound designer, I experienced various UX designs of all the LGE products
and was responsible for all the sound designs and automotive UI designs.
Also, I worked as an HCI researcher at DAUM Communications (Korean Web Portal).
In a New Media Lab of Think Tank at DAUM, we envisioned a figure of "Y + 10 years" internet service.
Besides, I have worked with Samsung Electronics, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology,

Hyundai-Kia Motors Company, Toyota, General Electric, Panasonic Automotive, and Centrafuse
for product design, guideline creation, and various research projects.
Meanwhile, I have taught HCI, Human Factors, and other psychology classes in several Universities in Korea and the U.S.
I have served as a reviewer for a Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied,
program committee,
program chair, workshop organizer, and session chair for

conferences such as Mobile HCI, CHI, HFES, ICAD, and AutomotiveUI.

I have led some bands and made several film scores.
Also, I have produced and performed tons of various music & movie events.
